Hello everyone
So, this week I’m sharing some photos and a voice note of where I currently am.
Enjoy!!
Guatemala. Located in Central America, south of Mexico.
Land Area: 108,889 square kilometers. (1.55 times bigger than Ireland.)
Population: 18.4 million
Lake Atitlan
Lake Atitlán, located in the highlands of Guatemala, is approximately 130 square kilometers (50 square miles) in surface area. Its depth varies significantly but reaches a maximum of around 340 meters (1,120 feet), making it one of the deepest lakes in Central America.
Tzununa
That’s the dock where the boats (lanchas) arrive to. A lot of movement is done via water taxi here. My place is 200m further up the valley, a steep, 20 minute walk.
My cabin home
A simple, rustic two-storey wooden cabin with storage underneath. Raised above the ground on nine cement pillars, reinforced to protect against earthquakes. Yes, this is earthquake country. I’ve been woken by a few tremors.
The Garden
Double-stemmed avocado tree in the centre. Otherwise, lush and green and brimming with life. Including a nocturnal cat that likes to rampage about the place…
…Little outdoor kitchen with lemongrass growing along the border.
To finish….
I must include an image of the Resplendant Quetzal, the National bird, and one that you can see in the forests hugging the southern shore of the lake. I took that trip last Winter :)
Here he is!
Until next time everyone.
By the way, I’m always open to visitors here :)
